Sew With History, Not Just Fabric.

The sustainable sewing curriculum for creatives who want to transform vintage linens, antique quilts, and sentimental textiles into modern, wearable art.

A New Life for Old Textiles

The "Too Precious to Cut" Dilemma.

You have a box in your closet. Inside, there is a grandmother’s quilt, a stack of embroidered tablecloths, or a piece of vintage lace that takes your breath away. You want to use them, but you are paralyzed by fear.

“What if I ruin it?”

Unlike store-bought fabric, you can’t buy more if you make a mistake. Because of this high-stakes pressure, these beautiful textiles sit in the dark, gathering dust instead of being admired. The Fair Fit Sustainability Series is designed to give you the technical confidence to take those heirlooms out of the box and honor them by giving them a new life.

The Concept: Preservation Through Transformation

  • Heirloom Repurpose: This is not just about “patchwork.” It is about architectural construction. We teach you how to analyze the integrity of vintage fibers, stabilize them for modern wear, and construct garments that honor the original artist’s work while fitting your modern body.
Why Sustainability Needs Strategy

Why We Teach Differently

True sustainable fashion isn’t just about using old fabric; it’s about making sure the new garment lasts another lifetime.

  • Respect the Grain: Vintage textiles often have “memory” or distortion. We teach you how to block and square these fabrics so your garment hangs correctly.
  • Strategic Placement: Learn how to place patterns to highlight embroidery, avoid stained areas, and celebrate the original design.
  • Fit is Sustainability: The most sustainable garment is the one you actually wear. We apply the Fair Fit Method logic to ensure your upcycled piece fits perfectly, so it doesn’t end up back in a box.

Heirloom Repurpose:

The Masterclass

Unlock the secrets of upcycling with our comprehensive workshop on garment construction using vintage textiles.

This is our premier sustainable sewing course. It bridges the gap between quilting, conservation, and garment construction. You will learn the specific handling techniques required for delicate materials—from stabilizing shredding silk to sewing through heavy quilt batting without breaking needles.

This course gives you a repeatable framework to turn any flat textile—be it a tablecloth, a blanket, or a tapestry—into a structured, high-end jacket or garment. Stop hiding your treasures. Wear them.

Outcome: A completed “Fair Fit Jacket” (or garment of choice) made from repurposed materials.

Andrea Eastin

As a designer, I have always been fascinated by the stories fabric can tell. But in the fashion industry, I saw how much waste was created. I developed the Heirloom Repurpose curriculum to prove that “sustainable” doesn’t have to mean “messy.” I bring my background in professional tailoring to the world of upcycling, teaching you that with the right techniques, a 50-year-old tablecloth can look as polished as a garment from a high-end boutique.

The TEDx Talk

Heirloom Repurpose

Heirloom Repurpose teaches you how to transform cloth, me-mades, and past garments into entirely new pieces using fabric manipulation, texture-building, and creative sewing techniques. You’ll learn how to rework meaningful materials into expressive, unconventional garments that carry both history and new life—all through a process that expands your creativity and deepens your craftsmanship.

Andrea has been working with my 11-year- old daughter, Amelia, for nearly 6 years and I am amazed at how much she has learned! The lessons are tailored to her interests which keeps her excited and engaged in a variety of projects. Andrea is both personable and professional. She inspires Amelia’s creativity and truly brings out the best in her. They have a wonderful relationship. I am so thankful that we found her!!

FairFit is amazing! Andrea took me from a complete beginner who was totally afraid to touch a sewing machine (I was just so sure I was going to break it, y'all. you have no idea how skittish I was) to a sewing junkie with a huge list of cool finished projects that I never dreamed I would be able to tackle when I first started. I've made cool clothes, costumes, amazing bags, swimsuits, bras, and the spiked purple denim jacket of my dreams. I've made David Bowie inspired leggings as well as dresses for job interviews. Not only has she given me expert instruction and taught me the fundamentals, she's really encouraged and helped develop my creativity as well. I can not recommend FairFit enough.

I can’t possibly recommend Andrea and Fair Fit Studio enough! Andrea has been teaching my daughter sewing lessons for about 6 years. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she is so patient and encouraging. Any idea my daughter has, Andrea just says “Let’s figure out how to do it,” including a formal dress that my daughter designed. She is absolutely amazing—wish I could give her 10 stars!

Andrea is an incredible tailor! I need alterations on most of my clothes, and she always makes gowns, jumpsuits, and dresses fit me perfectly. I feel so much more confident shopping for events knowing she can make anything fit just right. I happily drive in from New Orleans to Baton Rouge because her work is truly worth it. Highly recommend!

This studio experience for my daughter who is in college has been life changing. She has gained a lot of confidence in sewing plus experience. The one on one classes help a lot if you are a beginner. The instructor is absolutely phenomenal. I highly recommend Fair Fit Sewing Studio to both first time sewers and advanced learners .

My daughter and I love Mrs. Andrea! She has been a wonderful teacher and inspiration to us both! She is encouraging and has an excellent way of meeting my daughter at her level and keeping her focused. Fair Fit has been an incredible blessing to us. I sincerely can’t recommend her enough!

I've been taking sewing classes with Adrea for over two years now. I enjoy every lessons and she is down to earth. We've been making dresses (that I could wear to work). Altering my unfitted wardrobe to have them fit me better (Lord help me, I'm a shorty 😆). She is very knowledgeable about clothes and how to solve difficult problems. Overall, if you want to learn a new hobby or just need to take some lessons to learn how to fix your clothes, I highly recommend her.

My daughter was dealing with extreme anxiety 8 years ago. When we were looking for an activity that may help, we were recommended sewing lessons with Andrea. It turned out to be an amazing way for her to build her confidence and express herself in sewing creations. Andrea is the perfect blend of positive support, and just the right amount of challenging my daughter’s abilities to promote growth and self-assuredness while working on sewing projects in lessons. This has definitely spilled over into her life outside of lessons. Projects my daughter has completed run the gamut from a simple tote bag, to a new favorite pair of everyday pants, to costume show pieces. Andrea uses each project chosen by my daughter to teach new and important techniques, such as how to create your own pattern when there isn’t one for what you want to make, and how to alter patterns or existing pieces to fit you better, or even how to get faster at a technique that you learned in an earlier lesson. 8 years later, my daughter is quite an accomplished sewist, yet is always learning more from Andrea. She still always very much looks forward to attending her sewing lessons.

My daughter has been sewing with Andrea for seven years starting at age nine. I can’t even begin to tell you how many amazing projects that they have completed together in that time. My daughter is very creative and knows exactly how she wants her projects to look. She will come in with a drawing and Andrea helps her turn it into reality. About five years ago, I decided to take lessons myself and I love it! Andrea is a patient and wonderful teacher and I have learned so much from altering clothes that don’t fit to creating costume masterpieces. Andrea is our fashion fairy godmother!

Andrea is quite simply an amazingly creative designer. I first encountered her work when I saw a patchwork dress she had made at the Crafts Market in downtown Baton Rouge. I bought it and wore it and everywhere I went people loved it and asked where I had gotten it because they wanted one. Then I took her a pile of New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival teeshirts I had collected over the years. She cut them up and pieced them together and made a dress that was so eye-catching that, when I wore it to Jazz Fest, I was photographed by NOLA.COM and ended up on Instagram. Then I gave her some clothes I no longer wear made by a Dutch Designer People of the Labyrinths, and she cut them up and assembled the pieces into a series of fantastic garments that are so beautiful and original. They are one of a kind pieces that deserve to be worn on a runway. I cannot say enough about Andrea's talents, her creations, and the pleasure of consulting with her.

I started lessons with Andrea with absolutely zero sewing experience. She taught me the basics in a way that was easy to understand, and as I got more comfortable, I began bringing in whatever project I was working on at the time. I took lessons regularly for about a year and still come back occasionally if I need help with something specific. I even signed my husband up, and she taught him how to sew too! Andrea is patient, knowledgeable, and fun to learn from. I always left our sessions feeling more confident in my skills, and along the way we genuinely became friends. I can’t recommend her enough. Whether you’re a complete beginner or just need help with a tricky project, she’s fantastic. 10/10! Edit to add: I even did a little “fashion show” where I got to show off something I made in my lessons which was this jacket that is still a staple in my wardrobe! Also added a photo of a halloween costume I made for my sister who went as Justin Hawkins from The Darkness in "I Believe in a Thing Called Love."

I started working with Andrea in 2017 when I wanted to learn how to sew. In 2018 I moved to Georgia and tried other instructors but always knew I had the best in Baton Rouge. Andrea is extremely efficient with the lesson time, incredibly knowledgeable, and so much fun to be around. We now work over FaceTime and I always make sure I schedule several hours with her when I am in town. We have followed patterns and created our own. She is the BEST!

Andrea is an incredible teacher! I’ve learned so much from her in the past year — not just how to sew — but how to really understand garment construction, adjust patterns for my body, and create pieces I’m really proud to wear. Her experience and expertise in fine arts and garment design really shines through in how she teaches. She has this incredible ability to make complex techniques like draping, fit, and alterations approachable and clear (even for newbies like me). Andrea’s teaching style is both patient and motivating. She creates a space for you where it feels safe to learn, try, and grow. I always leave class not only more knowledgeable but also energized to keep creating. Trust me, there’s no better feeling than when someone compliments what you’re wearing and you can proudly say, “Thanks, I sewed it myself!” If you want to sew and create with the very best, Andrea is the teacher you need — and Fair Fit is the place to learn.

Where do I start…Andrea is everything plus so much more that I wanted when I started looking for a sewing teacher for my daughter. At first I was amazed at Andrea’s ability to work with children. I’ve never seen a teacher even through school years that has her gift. She has a God given ability to deal with people in such a calm, graceful, patient, and understanding way and my daughter absolutely loves her! We have quite the drive to get to lessons and will give up other things before we would ever stop taking lessons with Andrea. The growth that my daughter has shown not only with her sewing abilities but her confidence and mind set on life in general has shifted since Andrea became a part of her life. My daughter enjoy’s making her own clothes and what a blessing it has been to witness all of the pieces she has completed under Andrea’s guidance. The joy that sewing has brought to our family is immeasurable and I will be forever grateful that I found such a special person who is so knowledgeable and extremely talented in many ways.

I’ve taken sewing, fabric dyeing, and screen printing from Andrea Eastin at Fair Fit. She’s knowledgeable about her craft, and she explains and demonstrates techniques that make all crafts, but particularly sewing, accessible with professional-looking results. Taking classes with Andrea is a delightful experience.

google

Andrea is a delight to be around, and she’s also very skilled - I had two pairs of pants that were unusual in construction and also the fit. They weren’t flattering, but I couldn’t figure out why, and you can’t return Poshmark buys! Andrea was able to see what the problem was and tailor them to my proportions. I’m so happy to be able to wear both of these pants now!

google

She is a tremendous sewing instructor. I went from no experience to making clothes I could wear in 2 lessons. Would highly recommend.

google

Andrea helped me pad a mannequin to my measurements and she is so kind and knowledgeable. My mannequin looks great and I understand it more. I can't wait to use it to make more Mardi Gras costumes

google

Andrea is amazing!!! My daughter is learning a life skill, and having the best time doing it! I could not be more thrilled with Fair Fit Studio! I can’t wait to see what she makes next!

google

I ordered the fair fit method and I was able to begin teaching myself how to sew. I was so in love with sewing that I began taking the private lessons a year and a half ago. I can’t say more about Andrea and her methods! I’m a grandma that wanted to learn how to make baby and toddler clothes. She has taken me through pattern selection, material cutting, sewing cottons and knits and even serging. I got my serger last Christmas and she taught me to thread and use it in one lesson! She makes sewing fun and I come twice a month because each lesson builds on the next. Kids to grandmas would benefit from these classes. There is nothing to be afraid of cuz Andrea’s hand over hand method will teach even the scared, absolute beginner like me!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I found Andrea Eastin and the Fair Fit Sewing Studio through a recommendation from a local sewing machine repair shop, and I am so glad I followed that tip. I’ve now taken both her online Fair Fit Method course and in-person lessons, and each experience has exceeded my expectations. The online course was my first introduction to draping—something that had always seemed far too intimidating. Andrea broke it down in a way that was approachable, clear, and actually fun. Her in-person lessons have been just as valuable. She has been helping me with alterations, construction techniques, fabric selection, and most importantly, creating garments that are genuinely wearable. Andrea has a wonderful way of keeping me inspired and motivated, especially when I start to get frustrated. I’ve always wanted to sew and alter my own clothing without it looking “homemade,” and she has been absolutely instrumental in helping me reach that goal. On top of all that, Andrea is simply a lovely person—warm, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. I can’t recommend her and the Fair Fit Sewing Studio highly enough!

My daughter started sewing classes with Fair Fit/Andrea at a very young age. Andrea has a way of meeting her students where they are, teaching them basics and encouraging them to explore their skills to improve and be creative. As my daughter has furthered her studies Andrea has continued to be a wonderful teacher, mentor, sounding board, and all around asset to her in her career path and goals. Whether you are a novice looking to learn to sew or to improve your sewing skills, Fair Fit is the perfect fit.

Woven vs. Knit: The 2-Minute Guide to Fabric Anatomy

You found the perfect pattern. You bought a fabric that looked pretty. You sewed it up. And... it’s a disaster. It’s too tight, or it sags in weird places. The culprit is usually a mismatch between Woven and Knit fabrics. To a beginner, fabric is just "stuff." But structurally, these two categories are as different as bricks and rubber bands. Understanding the difference is the first step to a garment that actually fits. 1. Wovens...

5 Sewing Tools You Actually Need (And 3 You Can Skip)

Walk into a fabric store, and you are immediately assaulted by gadgets. There are magnetic pincushions, laser-guided hem markers, and scissors that cost more than your car payment. For a beginner (and even an intermediate sewist), the Gear Acquisition Syndrome is real. But here is the truth: You don't need a lot of tools. You just need the right tools. At Fair Fit Studio, we see students show up with bags full of gadgets they...

Why You Are Not a “Size 12”: The Myth of Standard Sizing vs. Your 3 Fit Zones

There is a specific moment of trauma that almost every sewist experiences early in their journey. You decide to make a dress. You go to the fabric store and flip through the heavy catalogs. You find a pattern that looks beautiful on the model. You flip the envelope over to the back to check the size chart. You are wearing a Size 10 pair of jeans from the Gap as you stand there.
